Mezzo-soprano Lucy Baker has been described as spellbinding, seductive, and mesmerizing by The Broad Street Review and has been praised for her “comedy chops” by Splash Magazines. As a second year member of the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, Baker has performed on the iconic stages of Chicago, most recently at Lyric Opera of Chicago as Peasant Girl while covering Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro. In her first season at Lyric, she sang the role of Karolka in Jenufa and covered the role of Tisbe in La Cenerentola.

Her concert performances with Lyric have brought audible audience approval in scenes from La Grande Duchesse, Cendrillon, Dialogues des Carmélites, and La Cenerentola, where “Baker was a vibrant, compelling Angelina … [demonstrating] her clear tone and precise intonation while rendering the line and articulations with style.” (Seen and Heard International) 

While pursuing her master’s degree at the Curtis Institute of Music, Lucy performed the roles of  Ariodante, Dorabella (Così fan tutte), and The Hostess in a film adaptation of Marc Blitzstein’s Triple-Sec. In 2022, she joined Eric Owens with Curtis on Tour, performing a program including Brahms’ Neue Liesbeslieder Waltzes. During her time at DePaul University, Lucy sang the roles of Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) and Hansel (Hansel and Gretel).

During her summers, Lucy has attended many prestigious programs. In the summer of 2024, she sang the role of Hänsel while she was a Fleming Artist at the Aspen Music Festival and School. In 2022, she was a fellow at The Ravinia Steans Music Institute and attended The Chautauqua Institution, where she covered the role of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in Derrick Wang’s Scalia/Ginsburg in 2021 and performed the role of Serse in a virtual production in 2020. In the summer of 2025, Lucy looks forward to attending the Internationale Meistersinger Akadamie in Neumarkt, Germany.
